Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine incorporates a broad range of concepts that have been in practice for more than 2,000 years. It is a sophisticated and holistic clinical system that uses the mechanisms of acupuncture and moxabustion to stimulate and regulate the flow of qi, or energy, and blood throughout the body to promote health and balance. According to Chinese medicine theory, the human body is comprised of meridians or channels that are said to flow like rivers, linking the internal organs and connecting the upper portion of the body to the extremities to transport the flow of qi and blood throughout the system.

The practice of acupuncture utilizes sterile needles to activate the qi along the body’s channels to relieve the stagnation that causes disease. Acupuncture has been heavily researched and has come to gain popularity and respect in many countries around the world. It can be used to effectively treat both acute and chronic conditions. Moxabustion is a warming technique that utilizes the Chinese herb mugwort or artemisia vulgaris to activate the acupuncture points and rectify any disturbance or dysfunction in circulation throughout the body. Moxabustion is used in conjunction with acupuncture to maximize the effectiveness of treatment. Acupuncture is considered to be a safe and effective modality that restores balance throughout the body, decreases pain and spasm and has a generalized calming effect on the mind.
